Out of Ink Tattoo Removal – Summer 2014

We have had a great summer and we would like to thank all of our customers and local tattoo shops!

We have had many local clients from Plymouth and Cape Cod and also people travel from as far as Rhode Island and New Hampshire to see us because of the results we are producing. Also, we have found one thing in common with almost every single customer. They have all stated that the laser tattoo removal process was far less uncomfortable than they had been told or thought it was going to be.

Out of Ink Tattoo Removal has seen a recent increase in clients that have one thing in common: thet Miliary. The Marines, Air Force, Army and Navy have always had tattoo policies in place, but recently the rules have changed for the United States Army and tattoos are the only thing holding some great people back from enrolling. Another common reason for tattoo removal is for jobs, and more specifically the Police Departments. Especially the Massachusetts State Police and the Rhode Island State Police. They now have a policy that does not allow visible tattoos while wearing short sleeves.

Our Quanta Q has proven its greatness at removing those hard colors like blue and green. We have even had great success with the notoriously hard to remove inks. These inks tend to be the better tattoo inks such as Eternal Ink, Fusion Ink and Silverback Ink.

We have also seen many great tattoos this summer. Tattoos have become such an art form and people have become “Tattoo Collectors” seeking after different artist for specific styles of tattooing. Several of our customers have come to us to get their old ink faded so they can get a cover-up. The tattoo shops are excited about our results and pleased to find that there are no scars and they can easily tattoo the skin over where we have done treatments.

Quanta Q plus C vs PicoSure

PicoSure –Vs- Quanta Q plus C
There have been several people that have heard of the PicoSure laser being the “best” laser on the market and have inquired if we use it. We have chosen not to, and here is why;
Lasers are like other technology. There is always going to be the “latest and greatest”, but is the PicoSure really? No. The proof is in the wavelengths. In fact, if you know your physics and where ink settles in the skin, the Quanta Q Plus C works much more specific at the EXACT depth that each color ink sits.
The Quanta is the only laser in the world to uses 3 TRUE wavelengths. These wavelengths are 1064, 532, and 694. The energy of these wavelengths represent the depth that the laser targets the ink at. They are very specific. Different color ink sits in different depths of the skin. Black sits the deepest and is easiest to remove. It is targeted by 1064. Red/orange sit at the least depth in the skin and is targeted by 532. Blue and green, though sometimes harder to remove, don’t stand a chance to the Ruby 694 wavelength.
So why does the PicoSure have a wavelength that is 755? This was one of the first wavelengths used for tattoo removal. It falls right between 694 and 1064. Essentially the reactions happens past the 694 (blue/green) wavelength and stops before 1064 (black) wavelength. Yes it works, but it doesn’t go deep enough into the black and it bypasses the blue and green. Even though the colors are effected by the wavelength it does not hit any specifically, nor at the correct depth. Also the Quanta has the highest fluencies, out of any laser, in all wavelengths. (Strongest ink breaking ability)
PicoSure claims that “the area will heal more quickly, with less damage to the surrounding tissue”. Here at Out of Ink, 95% of our clients tell us that they forgot that we did a treatment by the next day, or even by that night! How much faster can you get?
Quanta is still the only laser that uses a square beam rather than a round beam. This is where the advantage comes in. On a circular beam, such as the PicoSure, spots are overlapped. Overlapping treatments result in skin damage that can be permanent. With a square beam, pulses are precisely stacked in an even fashion for best results and least damage.

We have had customers come in for a treatment and then go try a session with the PicoSure. The feedback that we have received from many was that “the difference between the PicoSure and Quanta was the huge bill I received after my PicoSure treatment”. Some have said they have actually noticed less movement of ink after a PicoSure treatment.

Remember, It’s not just the machine! It’s the knowledge of the technician. Anyone can turn a laser on, press a bunch of buttons and fire the machine. The extensive knowledge of how the machine works, physics, tattoo ink, anatomy and physiology play a huge role is safe and effective removal.

R20 Method and Why We Don’t Recommend It

Several times a week we have customers call us and ask if we use the R20 method. We take the time to explain to them why we DO NOT and why we do not recommend it.

It is not because we can’t do it or don’t want you to go elsewhere. It’s because we want you to have great results and safe treatment.

“R20” is a fancy word for a dangerous process in which you receive 3-4 treatments on the same tattoo in the same day. In the tattoo removal industry this in known as “Heat Stacking”.

During the treatment the laser seeks the ink pigment and breaks it into smaller particles for your body to filter out. When the ink breaks apart there is a small amount of thermal energy created. The “heat” of the thermal energy is nothing that you can feel, it is going on at the cellular level. The “heat” lasts 6 seconds in the inked area after the ink is broken apart. This is referred to as “Thermal Relaxation”. With our “Zimmer” chiller we use during the process we reduce this to 1 second and this is why we have excellent results and a very low chance of blistering the area.

With the R20 method the area is treated 3-4 times, 20 minutes apart. This is creating significant damage to the skin due to heat stacking. Companies that perform the R20 method claim that it can remove the tattoo faster with less treatments. In fact, they are damaging the skin and greatly increasing the chance of leaving permanent marks and scars and actually increasing the amount of treatments you may need. Not to mention, they are charging 2-3 times the cost to do this.

The tattoo removal process is unfortunately not a process with instant gratification, but, with the correct treatment and working with a knowledgeable Laser Removal Technician you can ensure that you have a great chance of completely removing your unwanted tattoo.

The World Wide Supremacy of Q-Plus C

Q-Plus series provides much higher performances when compared to other Q-switched lasers on the market. After one and half years from its introduction, the Q-Plus C, also named Q-Plus T (Total – for the USA market now), is the first and most powerful Q-switched laser platform which combines all in one unit a Nd:Yag @ 1064 / 532 nm and a Ruby @ 694 nm: three wavelengths which, with the highest achievable fluencies, efficiently target all tattoo colors and pigmented lesions. Green, red, blue, and black pigments can be removed effectively and more quickly, thanks to the high power, the big spot size and the high repetition rate.

When comparing the Q-Plus C (T) of Quanta with the other relevant players present today on the market, i.e. Candela and Hoya Combio, there is no doubt that the Quanta laser is superior in its global specifications.

Thus, although recently Candela has improved the energy of its AlexTriVantage @ 755 nm from 700 to 800 mJ per pulse, and Hoya has introduced its Revlite which includes dyes, Quanta takes to the market the unique advantage of working with three very stable wavelengths, wider spot sizes, being its pulses highly energetic. Quanta, additionally, does not use dye lasers, which are characterized by lower fluencies and which usually deteriorate with time. A comparison of energies vs wavelengths among the above players is shown in the below table:

Wavelength – Energy per pulse Wavelength -Energy per
pulse
Wavelength – Energy per pulse
Quanta-Q-Plus C(T) 694nm–1000mJ 1064nm-1000mJ 532nm–500mJ
Candela – AlexTriVantage 755 nm–800mJ 1064nm-400mJ 532nm–200mJ
Hoya ConBio – Revlite 650nm–200mJ 1064nm-1600mJ 532nm–500 mJ
